  the general house effect

the green house effect is not a new phenomenon. scientists have known for centuries that a layer of gases naturally surrounds the earth like an insulating blanket, trapping the reflected energy of the sun and preventing it from escaping into space that is what makes the earth warm enough for people, plants and animals. however, recent human activity has boosted concentrations of greenhouse gases and enhanced their heat-trapping ability. the man culprit is carbon dioxide which scientists estimate accounts for nearly half of global warming.co2 is released from burning fossil fuels and from clearing and burning forests.

there are other important greenhouse gases too and they cannot be ignored. cfcs, for example, may account for 25 per cent of global warming in the text century if their production is not scaled back. but carbon dioxide is the pivotal one. the un international panel on climatic change now says that co2 levels could double within in 40 years if present rates of fossil-fuel burning and deforestation continue. that means an average temperature increase between two and four degrees centigrade and a sea-level rise of perhaps a foot by 2050.

no one knows for certain how local weather will change as a result of this warming. but one thing is clear-it will be no picnic. indications are that the earth will be take place not over thousands of years, but over decades. and it is the speed of the change, which makes the precise impact so difficult to predict.

the most sophisticated com*rized climate models in the us and uk , agree that weather around the world will become more irregular and more extreme. in general, temperatures will become more towards the poles than at the equator. overall rainfall will also increase as higher temperatures boost evaporation from the seas. but the distribution of precipitation will shift. some areas will become wetter, others will be drier. in middle latitudes, climate zones will march poles-wards. in tropical and subtropical parts of the third would, warming will be less but the impact on a relatively stable climate will be greater.

global warming will also cause ocean levels to rise---though not, as popular wisdom has it, due to the antarctic ice cap melting. if this catastrophe occurs it will not be for at least another century. instead, sea levels will rise sim* because water expands as it warms. people living in low-lying coastal regions will be in danger. the world’s great river deltas, home to millions in asia and latin america and containing some of the third world’s richest food-growing land, could become brackish graveyards.

  6. which gas is the most responsible for global warming?

  a. carbon dioxide.

  b. cfcs.

  c. green houses.

  d. other gases in the atmosphere.

  7. what will happen if man continues to burn fossil fuels and forests at present rates?

it is the speed of the change, which makes the precise impact so difficult to predict.

job hunting has always been a headache for college students. though many graduates are employed right after graduation, some are not. most serious of all, some still have no idea where to go working even a long time after graduation.

the reasons for this phenomenon are various. on the one hand, a few years ago colleges and universities enrolled so many students in popular majors, such as economy, finance and so on that the number of graduates was greater than the need in the market. on the other hand, most graduates would rather stay in large cities without suitable job to do than go to the country.

i reckon this problem can be solved if both colleges and students take measures. first, they should research the market and develop special skills to suit its need. second, students’ attitude towards employment should be changed. they should go to small cities and country. there they can also give full play to their professional knowledge. in a word, if we pay much attention, the situation can be improved.

due attention should be given to spelling

as is shown above, the bar chart clearly demonstrates the relationship between the education level and earning in 2010. it is obvious that well-educated persons such as owning doctoral degree and master's degree have a high salary than those who have relatively low degree. isolated as the figure seems to be, as a matter of fact, we can observe that the higher level of education you receive, the higher income you get.

people’s opinions about investment in education differ from person to person. some people say that knowledge could no longer change destiny. to them, it is not only a waste of money, but also a waste of time. others deem that education is worthy of investment. as for me it is no doubt that education offers favorable working opportunity and handsome income, which enable us to buy what we want ,please what we love, and fulfill what we dream, and correspondingly we are able to build an ideal paradise where life can be enjoyed to the uttermost.

in conclusion, we should realize significance of education, which plays a crucial role in personal growth of career. in addition, it is convinced that education is the prospect of a nation.

from the chart above, we can definitely get a conclusion that the more you learned, the higher your salary would be. the figures in the chart denied the claim that knowledge is useless. however quite a few people still hold the opinion that a higher education does no good to a better job since that there are many university students who can not get an ideal job.

what i want to point out is that there is more than one factor that contributes to the failure of finding an ideal job for those who got a higher education. while those who failed to get a better education will hardly succeed in getting a good job because they didn’t get the knowledge systematically and scientifically.

as the proverb goes like this, knowledge is power. education pays, sooner or later.

from the above table, we can see that the students of this university have three mainchoices after graduation. of these choices, the students who have found a job only take up50%. in contrast, students who pursue further study by taking the postgraduate entranceexam or going abroad have increased greatly than before, with the total percentage of 47%.indeed, this phenomenon is also quite common in other universities.

the following factors can account for the choices of graduates. above all, with theenrollment extension of universities, college graduates are facing the severe employmentsituation, which forces them to find another way out. moreover, in information age, knowledgeis updated very rapidly. many college students find their knowledge is not enough for theirfuture career. besides, some college students would not like to enter into the complicatedsociety and want to escape from the reality temporarily by going to further study.

from my point of view, one’s choice after graduation should be based on his individualcondition. though taking the postgraduate entrance exam or going abroad for further study isa good choice, it is not necessarily true of everyone, because it might involve many factors, such as your future career direction, your economic condition. therefore, we should take a fullaccount before we make our decisions.

the beginning of drama

there are many theories about the beginning ofdrama in ancient greece. the on most widelyaccepted today is based on the assumption thatdrama evolved from ritual.

the argument for thisview goes as follows. in the beginning, human beingsviewed the natural forces of the world-even theseasonal changes-as unpredictable, and theysought through various means to control theseunknown and feared powers. those measureswhich appeared to bring the desired results werethen retained and repeated until they hardened into fixed rituals.

eventually stories arose which explained or veiled the mysteries of the rites. as time passedsome rituals were abandoned, but the stories, later called myths, persisted and providedmaterial for art and drama. those who believe that drama evolved out of ritual also argue thatthose rites contained the seed of theater because music, dance, masks, and costumes werealmost always used, furthermore, a suitable site had to be provided for performances andwhen the entire community did not participate, a clear division was usually made between the"acting area" and the "auditorium." in addition, there were performers, and, sinceconsiderable importance was attached to avoiding mistakes in the enactment of rites, religious leaders usually assumed that task. wearing masks and costumes, they oftenimpersonated other people, animals, or supernatural beings, and mimed the desired effect-success in hunt or battle, the coming rain, the revival of the sun-as an actor might. eventuallysuch dramatic representations were separated from religious activities.

another theory traces the theater's origin from the human interest in storytelling. accordingto this vies tales (about the hunt, war, or other feats) are gradually elaborated, at first throughthe use of impersonation, action, and dialogue by a narrator and then through theassumption of each of the roles by a different person. a closely related theory traces theaterto those dances that are primarily rhythmical and gymnastic or that are imitations of animalmovements and sounds.

certificate craze on campus英语四级作文1

in recent years, to get a certificate has become a new craze among college students. just randomly ask a student on campus what he or she is busy doing, quite possibly, you may get the answer that he is preparing for a certificate of some kind. why does this craze appear?

there are mainly two reasons behind this phenomenon. to begin with, it is the employment pressure that forces college students to get more certificates. with the admission expansion of colleges, a lot more graduates have to face the fierce competition in the job market. how can one make himself more competitive? more certificates at hand, maybe. furthermore, diploma and certificates are still vital standards by which a good many employers measure a persons ability. in order to increase the qualifications for a job, the students compel themselves to run from one exam to another.

from my point of view, we should be more rational when it comes to certificates, since certificates do not necessarily prove ones ability. being crazy in getting certificates blindly is nothing but wasting time. to conclude, we should focus on improving our ability but not getting a certificate of no practical value.

certificate craze on campus英语四级作文2

it is quite a common phenomenon that college students are enthusiastic over getting all kinds of certificates, such as accountant certificate, teacher certificate and so on. what is the reason for that? and it should be advocated or not?

in my opinion, there are two reasons accounting for the phenomenon. for one thing, many students think that the more certificates they get now, the more chances they can get a good job in the future. they are told that the companies or institutions think highly of the certificate when interviewing. therefore, they try their best to get all kinds of certificates, even though some have no any relationship with their majors or interests. for another, following others’ choices is another reason. a number of students go to purse the certificates because they find that many classmates around them are doing that so they think it would be safe to follow others.

from my point of view, it is not wise for everyone to follow others’ steps to get all kinds of certificates. i consider that we should make our choices combining with our own concrete conditions. besides, certificate is not the only one criterion to measure our ability and we should not be too enthusiastic over it.

certificate craze on campus英语四级作文3

now more and more people are keen on various certificates no matter whether he orshe is in college or not. my friend was surprised when she saw a man in hisforties sitting next to her and working on his accounting paper with struggle. whythey are so addicted to certificates is my concern.

from my perspective, there are various kinds of purposes. first of all, throughworking on a certificate, college students can gain more knowledge and skillsaside from their own major. what’s more, the more certificates students get, themore accesses they have to be offered good jobs. therefore, students choose towork on certificates, such as cet 4, cet 6 or cap, and so on. secondly, people inwork want to get promotions. companies need professional employees to meet withneed of the company’s development or our society’s development. thirdly, somecollege students, like me, want to live a meaningful and fruitful college life.

as far as i am concerned, we should choose to work on proper certificates, so thatwe can save our time to develop our practical ability.

enhance awareness to guard against campus thefts

"if you don't want to wake up and find you have no pants to wear, you'd better put themon in sleep," goes a popular joke among students. obviously, campus thefts have becomeincreasingly annoying as they occur far more often than before. and it seems that the thievesare less choosy these days, with their targets ranging widely from bikes, cell phones, purses,pre-paid ic cards to sunglasses, bags, and even underwear. in short, anything that worth adime is likely to be stolen.

what makes students the easy targets? the reasons are not hard to find. but i believe ofall these reasons, the lack of anti-theft alertness is the most important. for lack of alertness, the students tend to leave the doors and windows wide open during sleep at noon or at nightin summer. for the same reason, they'll also leave their bikes unlocked before a store or by aroad, or forget to take away their personal stuff before they go out of the classroom to make aphone call.

these acts undoubtedly have increased their exposure to the light-fingeredmonsters.

in order to minimize possible losses, the students must stay on guard in the first place, asawareness of the thefts around often makes a big difference. to be more specific, thestudents should not hide any tempting amount of cash in the dorm. put it in the bank instead.besides, do not leave any valuable items unattended. take them wherever you go. inaddition, it's advisable to develop a neighbourhood watch programme with other students inthe dorm and neighbouring dorms.

search answer online

nowadays, internet plays a key role in our life for our various purposes, such as searching useful information or chatting online. however, as more and more people turn to the internet for help with their problems, people begin to take searching answer online seriously.

different people have different opinions. some hold the view that searching answer online can have bad impacts on people. since people can always surf on the internet to find the answers of their questions, they may get accustomed to doing it, and they are getting unwilling to solve problems by themselves. while others think that internet is a helper for people to solve a trouble.

as far as i'm concerned, we shouldn't completely depend on the internet. when we get into troubles, we’d better seek to find solutions. we can take the answer online as an inspiration to solve our questions, but don’t ap* mechanically.

  一、翻译时既要忠实于原文,又要符合汉语的*惯;

  二、翻译不可太拘泥,否则很容易因死守原文语言形式而损害了原文思想内容,好的译文应该是形式与内容的统一;

  free admissions to museums

failure is what often happens. it is everywhere in our life. students may fail in exams, scientists may fail in their research work, and athletes may fail in competitions. although failure happens to everyone, attitudes towards failure are various. some people don’t think their failure is a very important thing at all. so they pay no attention to it.

as a result, they will have the same failure a period later. some people think themselves are fools and lose their hearts in everything after they get a failure. consequently, they spend their time and energy on useless things and they may really be fools as they have thought.

other people are quite different from the two kinds of people mentioned above. instead of being distressed and lost, they draw a lesson from every failure and become more experienced. after hard work, they will be successful in the end. it is said that failure is the mother of success. success will be gained after times of failures so long as we are good at drawing lesson from our failures. in my opinion, failure is not a bad thing, the really bad thing is taking a failure as failure or even lose our heart after failure.

it has been said that when people succeed,it is because of hard work and that luck has nothing to do with success.although i believe that hard work is very important and is the surest way to success for most people,i must disagree with this statement.it cannot be denied that luck often plays an important role in success.for example, many important discoveries have been made by accident.there have been many cases of researchers and inventors making major breakthroughs while they were actually trying to solve another problem or create a different device.

furthermore, there is something to be said for sim* being in the right place at the right time-perhaps meeting someone by chance who can offer a good job or rare opportunity.and of course, there are the rare examples of gamblers and lottery winners who beat the odds and achieve sudden and unexpected success.

while the influence of luck cannot be ignored, this is not to say that one should depend on it and ignore the value of hard work.if one is willing to work hard,i believe that success will eventually be achieved, with or without the added benefit of luck.moreover, hard work is often an essential ingredient of luck because it enables one to take advantage of a lucky encounter.if the scientist has not worked hard to develop his knowledge and skills,he may not recognize that lucky breakthrough when it comes along.therefore,my suggestion is not to count on luck to bring you success.instead, work hard and keep your eyes open for that lucky opportunity.
